the ocean
i often miss the ocean so i’ll daydream about it sometimes
the waves
the surf
the smell of chloride salts
the way the breeze has that strange whisper from the sand
the way holding hands while walking the coastline just happens
the tide cold on your naked feet
no questions asked
no answers needed
i even love the foam and algae
the fear of sharks that’s mostly unfair to them
they’re just the ocean’s creatures
swimming in the ocean, where i long to be
nonetheless
i hope they stay far out to sea
you never know
that awful pinch that makes you jump when you step on a crab
but the cold ocean quickly soothes it
it’s okay if you don’t want to go in
a bad jellyfish sting can ruin your day at the ocean
there are a lot of them today
i wonder why
but we’re going to go in
we’ll see you from out there
us floating in the chilly waves
you sitting on the wet sand too perfectly flat to be real
if you wave
we’ll wave back
an ocean between us
