lost

lost

skyscrapers stood above her
oppressive and gray
steel skeletons
looming and authoritarian
her pace quickened and her thoughts thickened
the stars came closer
closer
she had to escape
to get back home
she picked one
please
she begged
im not from around here
there’s too many people
too many buildings
too many cars
too many windows
she looked at them desperately
im not from around here
its okay
they smiled
you’re just about there
keep going down this road
make a left at the statue of the union soldier
who once stood his ground here
in fields of grass
thank you, sincerely
as long as you're right
she hurried back home
to the woods in the night
