dreams
i knew i was dreaming
for i had just lain down
on my blanketed mattress
filled with foam and springs
and tumbled through midnight
behind my closed eyes
all things shifted funny
until settling in
leaving you there
translucent and warm
so we spoke in our dreamspeak
laughing in-between
when a familiar dawn’s light
entered the bedroom
i arose my usual heavy self
but gasped
and lightened in an instant
to see you still there
unlike in the dream
where fog danced with mist
your sweater was woollen
its color consistent
spooling my world
with unfettered elation
to think that a dream
could thus become real
and different from before
it had felt so real
until morning arrived
and left me discarded
and begging to return
to the dream within dream
